hey all, i've been out of work due to disability for 12 years now. does anyone know how one can go back to working part-time while *not* losing any ssi/ssdi income and medical benefits? i've heard rumor that this is possible, but can't find any info on the ss website other than something called "ticket to work", which doesn't explain a *thing*!
thanks in advance,

Re: working?
Tue, May 2, 2006 - 6:01 PMFirst I have to say dealing with SSA is a real pain in the ass!
There are several issues in your question. You can earn some money each month without impacting your SS benefits. You will have to check with SSA on the limits.
If you are looking to go back to work the Ticket to Work program has a number of elements designed to help in the transition. Many states have received grants to set up One-Stop Work Centers to assist people. Check with your state's Dept of Labor.

Your state's vocational rehabilitation department may be able to offer you assistance with training, equipment or other things to help you returm to work.
Also CIL's (Center's for Independent Living) offer assistance, including advocacy, for anyone with a disability. They should know what is available in your state and possibly other public and/or private resources in your area.

I hope this helps. -

Wed, May 10, 2006 - 2:36 PMI agree voc rehab is the place to start. You might ask about (when at VR) PASS plans and the EPD (Employed People with Disabilities) programs.
