I know some people with disabilities disagree with making jokes about disabilities. Well you can't please everyone. Hell, lots of people don’t like other things I like, I don't worry about pleasing all those people. I can always find a few nuts like me.

I think walkies, AB’s, whatever you call them will be a lot more comfortable around us when they can laugh with us. Not at us, but with us. The main problem I see is there are not enough good gimp jokes out there.

I would like to hear your opinion on the idea of disability humor.

I will leave you with my favorite gimp joke.

My name is DJ Melody. I have been a member of that chat room now for over a month, and I will tell you, it's the best place to go for a shoulder to lean on, or just to hang out and chat with people who share similar disabilities. The people in there are absolutely fantastic, they're friendly, funny, kind, unique, and very fun!

I origonally came to Disabilities-R-Us to share my internet radio station with the members there. I thought I could make a small difference in their lives with music. I found not only did I achieve that, I've made friends, and an online family in the process. I too, have a disability. I'm legally blind due to Retinitus Pigmentosa. I've found that the support they give is unsurpassed by any other chat room I've visited (most of which were vacent).

I encourage all in this tribe to give them a try. You have nothing to loose!

An entire team of doctors regularly helps me keep a better focus on quality of life, and to minimize the severe pain which plagues me. Medical marijuana is only one of the components for relief.

So it is called Post-Trauma FM, I also have Myofascial Pain Syndrome, am Bi-Polar, have Borderline Personality disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and a chronic torn meniscus of the left knee. I HAD to work, but at 32, had a nervous breakdown which led me to a near fatal suicide attempt at 33. I am unable to work, have no health insurance and no money. I've applied for Medi-Cal (denied) and SSD (denied 2x). I was told that I was turned down due to my extensive work history. Yes, I worked, but had NO quality of life. I have been on EVERY drug imaginable. Now I take Morphine ER 30mg tid, Morphine IR 15mg bid, Flexeril 10mg tid, Codeine 3 as needed, Paxil 10mg 1 a day, Lithium 150 mg @ bedtime, Risperdel .25 mg @ bedtime, and .5mg of Klonipin bid. I go to Alliance for Community Care for my mental illness but they dispense meds, not therapy or assistance. My PCP says I'm disabled, as does the Dept. of Rehab. I need knee surgery NOW (I've needed it for over a year). I live in Santa Clara Co. does anyone have an idea where I can turn for help? I am on my ALJ appeal w/ an attorney, but that could take quite a while for an outcome, which may not even go my way. I don't know what to do.

So I joined this tribe like, a month ago...
I've been sorta MIA~I dowloaded a virus that totally f**ked up my computer!
I was able to get it somewhat sorted out, but still having trouble...

anyway, I'm wondering if anyone can give me some good advice re:nervous system repair & any alternative methods I could check out to help it along. I've got an acute demylinating polyneuropathy thing going on...so it came on with a quickness, but it's progress was stopped upon treatment. Supposedly, my central & peripheral nervous system will heal...

....................but last week my physical therapist (who's specialty is SCI work) said that upon meeting me 3 mos. ago (& looking over my chart & progress)she had suspected that there was damage done to the spinal cord (which is unusual for the condition i've got)
-she named the region...but i forgot it's name almost instantly! oops!-
->and that after our work together, some monotoring, testing & especially her observation of my progress...that she's even more sure now that there is deffinate damage to my spinal cord.

then i got "the talk"........
you know, the one about how this might be as good as it gets,
& how I should start thinking about the possibility of not ever getting 100% better...like they said I would

Yeah, so...i've been running on this hope & expectation of recovery for almost 2 yrs.
& right now i feel like i'm stuck in limbo
i don't think any feelings have really even surfaced yet
but i'm sure they're about to because I began to get this really frantic, desperate urge to seek out a different treatment, something my Dr. may have over looked or been too egotistical to consider. There has to be a way that my Phys. therapist was wrong-i can't be like this forever...i have a 5 1/2 year old! i have plans for the rest of my life, F**K!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!my marriage is already in ruins-well over, really-because of my illness...

please, someone has got to have an idea...

My name is Ann. I'm mildly disabled with cerebral palsy, a neurogenic bladder, and moderate to severe hearing loss. My application for S.S.I. has just been denied. I need to find a job to support myself, so that I can stay in San Diego and continue to help my elderly mother. I do have a place to stay. It would be best if I could find a dayshift job, so that I could be over at Mom's hospital by 4:00-4:30. She is a resident at a convalescent hospital in San Diego and she really likes me to have dinner with her every day. I am her only child and I try to help her as much as I can.
I am a good typist and I'm computer literate. I have a B.A. in Humanities from New College of California, San Francisco. I would really appreciate any help or suggestions. I will be available for work on June 1, 2005
